Bigger Problems
Remember, there are probably bigger problems out there than those in your life...for example:
"After a decade of recession, Zimbabwe's inflation rate surged to an astounding record of 11.2 million percent in June, the highest in the world. Last month the central bank cut 10 zeros off the currency. Still, consumers have resorted to barter as inflation and a fall of the Zimbabwe dollar erode the value of cash. The country has faced both economic and political collapse since President Robert Mugabe seized white-owned commercial farms in 2000 and then most recently claimed victory in a one-man runoff president election."
Wow!

# 171
Ok, so went on the first ride back in 5 days. Had a blow out and the long process to take care of that on the side of the road, plus not riding in the last 5 days made this one not the best...but nevertheless ended up doing 12.6 miles, averaging 16mph with a max of 30.4mph.
That being said, my favorite Olympic night so far was tonight. # 171 from Japan fell on 3 of his 4 floor exercises including once from the rings, once from the vault and twice on the horse. You could tell he was hating life and just wanted to go home, but for me, it provided a sizeable amount of comic relief...
About halfway through this video you can see the fall off the rings...

'67 Camaro (cont.)
By the way...unbeknownst to us at the time, all runs except the final run were done with THE PARKING BRAKE ON...so we got an extra 20hp bump at the end! haha
'67 Camaro dyno day
Check out the pix and videos...
Final results after test & tune: 346.8rwhp (equivalent to 366.7rwhp if it was tested on a DynoJet do to different rollers and calcs), so with 15% drivetrain loss, that's between 408 crank hp to 431 crank hp.
Good start...it'll be fun when we get NO2 in...

Last Ride of the Week

So didn't really know where to go today. Not to be pompous but where else is there to go? I've gone down to Saticoy, up to the base of Oak View, down to the beach...so I just wandered for a bit and headed East first, then switched back through the dealerships and head to the harbor. Then through some residential and back up through the pier to Main St to home. Not a bad ride. Lots of elevation change and more traffic than normal (thanks for Friday)...but a good cap for the week...
23.7 miles in 105 minutes so 13.54 avg mph...not shabby =)

First ride on "Fuji-Sawa"
So the first ride on the new bike was awesome. It's abundantly clear the difference a "real" bike makes. The lighter fork, less-resistant wheels, better spaced ratios, and smoother shifting really makes a great difference on the quality, enjoyment and ability of a ride.
Here's the stats: 15.8 miles in 84 minutes yielding 11.29 mph average. Not bad for my first ride out in over a month
To be continued...

Weather delays at JFK
So after 1h 20m of delays leaving Logan Airport in Boston we arrived at JFK in New York...to be faced with delays of 2h 50m (and counting).
For added fun, JFK is in a brown stop due to lightning meaning no refueling or movement on the tarmac at all.

Wow. So I just officially finished my last session of my last course of post-seconday education. No more school...as in FOREVER!

Different Valuations of Life
"I recently picked a new primary care doctor. After two visits and exhaustive lab tests, he said I was doing 'fairly well' for my age.
A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him, 'Do you think I'll live to be 80?'
He asked, 'Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer or wine?' 'Oh no,' I replied. 'I'm not doing drugs, either.'
Then he asked, 'Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?' I said, 'No, my former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!'
'Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?' 'No, I don't,' I said.
He asked, 'Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex? 'No,' I said. 'I don't do any of those things.'
He looked at me and said, 'Then, why do you care?'"

Hawaiian Airlines - The Bags Arrive
So after calling this morning and being told "your bags are on the 8:30pm in from Maui, you can just get them at the carousel"...they, of course, were not. After more confusion and mis-communication, my bags came on the again-delayed 10:30pm flight out of Honolulu.
Then off to the long-term parking, gas station and a 3 hour drive home. Ahh...
ALOHA Hawaiian!
And Mahalo...that I don't have to deal with this again for a while...

Mahalo, Hawaiian Airlines
Mahalo for not assigning seats until our 4th request/ticket counter.
Mahalo for making us the last people to board our flight.
Mahalo for putting us three rows apart after requesting, well before those who came after, yet were boarded before us, to be seated together.
Mahalo for then being so chipper about holding us and not offering any condolences or even a smile.
Mahalo for the unpleasant flight attendants, whom probably were in need of some of the oxygen out of the fae masks. Haha
Mahalo for then forgetting to put our bags on the plane (which have my car keys and clothes in still).
Mahalo for making us the LAST people at SAN airport.
Mahalo for a great end to what was a truly fantastic vacation.
