In today's world of trying to be polite and politically correct, etc., we have a habit of using 'defaults' for salutations and good-bye's. For I just saw a lady say "You, too!" upon her leaving...but it was in response to "Good-bye"...If you think about that, it doesn't make a lot of sense. Surely the lady was trying to be polite but was already "out the door" in her mind.
It just shows how ingrained we can be with our ways, but also how important a sincere "Thank you" or the like can be. Remember that next time you really mean it...
